Standard uptake values(SUV) quantification in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is particularly important to evaluate solid tumor response to therapy which SUV quantification could indicate treatment efficiency. However, this quantification is influenced by partial volume effects. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of [18F] FDG uptake correction in the image quantification modes (SUVmaximum and SUVmedium) throughout recovery coefficients (RC) application using two activity background lesion ratio (4:1 and 10:1). PET/CT GE Discovery 600 equipment was used for the measurements. The NEMA/IECBody Phantomsimulator was used and tested at different acquisition times: 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 5.0 and 10.0 minutes. The images quantification was performed with OsiriX® software. The obtained RC were applied to the phantom images. Non-corrected SUV values by RC in relation to previously known SUVreference reached percentage differences values up to 78%. After RC application, the SUVmedium corrected showed small differences in relation to SUVreference for both activities concentrations 4:1 (1.1% to 2.9%) and 10:1 (3.5% to 4.0%) whereas different acquisition times adopted and different ROIs diameters. However, the similar results didn`t occur with SUVmaximum corrected values, which difference up to 27.0% and 12.4% were observed between the corrected SUVmaximum and the SUVreference for the activities concentrations 4:1 and 10:1, respectively. It was observed that activity concentration in the “lesions” didn`t influence SUV corrected values. Thus, more studies should be performed to statistically evaluate the concentration activity influence on corrected SUV values.
